What is AI visibility for a company?

AI visibility is the share of AI-generated answers in which a brand appears as a cited source. It is the AI-search equivalent of organic visibility in classic SEO — but measured against AI answer engines (Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude) instead of blue-link SERPs. The unit of measurement is Share of Citation per prompt panel, per surface, per week.

Swedish search behaviour is shifting: a meaningful share of B2B research queries no longer ends with a click — the answer is read inside the AI surface. If your brand is not in the cited sources, you are not in the consideration set. Unlike classic SEO position, citation share is winner-takes-most: 2–8 sources are quoted, the rest get zero attention.

(1) Share of Citation — the % of prompts in which the brand is cited with a link. (2) Mention Rate — the % where the brand is mentioned by name without a link (still influences perception). (3) Citation Position — the average rank in the citation list (Perplexity and Google AI Overviews display 3–8 sources in order). (4) Competitor Capture — the % of prompts where a direct competitor is cited instead of the brand. Track all four per surface, weekly.

Method

The Norrhavet benchmark — how it runs.

A prompt panel of 50–200 real Swedish customer queries is defined per sector. Each query runs against all four AI surfaces every week via API where available (OpenAI, Anthropic, Perplexity) and via Google Search Console + manual snapshot for AI Overviews. Results are stored per surface per week, then aggregated into Share of Citation and Competitor Capture. Methodology, prompt panel and raw weekly data are published openly so audits are reproducible.

Per Norrhavet's Q2 2026 Swedish B2B benchmark the median Share of Citation for a top-3 brand is 12.4%.
